Petite Vanilla Scones

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1 stick unsalted butter, room temperature
  • 3/4 cup milk, divided
  • 1 vanilla bean
  • 1 cup confectioners sugar

Preheat the oven to 400 degrees.

Sift ingredients into a bowl.  Add the butter and mix until the consistency of breadcrumbs.

In a small pot, pour the milk, scrape the seeds out of the vanilla bean.  Place the pod in the milk and heat gently over low heat until it begins to bubble along the edge of the pot.  Remove from heat and cool to room temperature.

When cool, pour 1/2 cup into the dry ingredients.  Mix until the dry ingredients come together into a ball.  If you need more milk, add another tablespoon, reserving 2 tablespoons for the glaze.img_3207

Make 16 small scones.  Place on a lightly greased baking sheet and bake for 15 minutes.

Allow scones to cool on a rack.  Then mix the remaining milk with the confectioners sugar to make a glaze.  Drizzle on to each scone.

Yields: 16 scones
